Welcome to Freedom Leisure and well done on taking your first step to achieving your fitness goals. We are looking forward to helping you succeed and making it fun and enjoyable along the way!
Now you've joined Freedom Leisure, the most important thing for us is to ensure you achieve everything you originally set out to do and help you celebrate success.
Your first coaching session is called an orientation or introduction. In this session one of our fully trained and experienced instructors will discuss with you your likes and dislikes, your experience levels, your current lifestyle, fitness levels and any health issues you may have. They will advise on how to plan your sessions. These discussions are really important so we can give you a fitness programme that is just right for you. This could include a group exercise class, using the pool, using the gym or a combination of all three.
Our fitness coaches are full of great tips to help you on your way to achieving the results you want. For example, did you know if you vary the activities you do you are more likely to stick to your routine and achieve success? The team will be able to help you tailor your programme to find complementary activities reflect your goals.
There will be follow up sessions to suit you and to ensure you keep on track.
You've made the first step in your journey so you'll probably know why you've decided to make a difference to your health and wellbeing.
You will have discussed this with your instructor but it's worth reminding yourself regularly. Write it down somewhere, stick a post-it to the fridge and remain focussed on your goals. We are here to make sure you achieve them so we'll certainly be monitoring your progress and we're always available to offer motivation, support and advice when needed.

Visitors to Freedom Leisure come in all shapes, sizes, abilities and fitness levels. There isn’t a specific look or type of workout clothing that you should wear.
You don’t need expensive footwear and the latest work out gear. As long as your clothing is breathable and allows you to move freely then simply wear what you feel comfortable in.
Our centres have a range of workout wear available for sale. The range of training tops and bottoms come in a variety of designs and colours and are very sensibly priced so they won't break the bank. We also have a selection of gym accessories from bags to workout towels, water bottles to training gloves.
This will be different for everyone
The best answer to this is to speak to your fitness expert during your orientation. However, here are some pointers;
Exercising only once or twice a week may not give you more than a low level of fitness. Experts say you should aim for at least three times a week if you want to achieve your health and fitness goals in a reasonable amount of time, and stay fit and healthy.
Four or five times a week is ideal, but most people find that unachievable due to time constraints, so it’s best to aim for three. This exposes your body to a large enough activity stimulus throughout the week, which enables the body to adapt, get stronger, leaner and fitter.
And for how long?
To kick-start your exercise programme, you should aim for between 45 minutes to an hour. If you are using the gym we recommend spending 10 minutes warming up, 30-40 minutes training, and 5-10 minutes cooling down and stretching. Your fitness instructors will be able to show you the best techniques to warm up and cool down.
Our group exercise class programmes have classes ranging from 30 minutes to an hour and one of our team can advise on the best type and length of class that is right for you.
If you are swimming the choice is yours. If you need support to improve your swimming ask about our adult learn to swim programme for beginners and anyone less confident in the water or our stroke improvement sessions.
