Welcome to Freedom Leisure and well done on taking your first step to achieving your fitness goals. We are looking forward to helping you succeed and making it fun and enjoyable along the way!
Now you've joined Freedom Leisure, the most important thing for us is to ensure you achieve everything you originally set out to do and if possible surpass those goals.
Your first coaching session in the gym is sometimes called an orientation or introduction. In this session one of our fully trained and experienced instructors will discuss with you your likes and dislikes, your experience levels, your current lifestyle and fitness levels. They'll talk to you about your availability to make sure you plan your sessions well and they'll also make sure they are aware of any medical conditions you may have. These discussions are all important so we can build up a bespoke workout to meet your specific needs.
Our fitness coaches are full of great tips to help you on your way to achieving the results you want. For example, did you know that members who do more than one activity are more likely to stick with their routine and have an increased chance of success. So if you joined to do mainly classes or swimming please still make use of the coaching session in the gym. The team will be able to help you tailor your training in the studio or pool to make sure you achieve the results you want
Further bespoke follow up sessions will be scheduled to suit you and to ensure you keep progressing towards your own goals.
You've made the first step in your journey so you'll probably know why you've decided to make a difference to your health and wellbeing.
In our experience not knowing exactly what it is you want to achieve is the fastest route to failure, so it’s vital that (if you haven't already) work out what your goals are in detail.
You will have discussed this with your instructor but it's worth reminding yourself and write it down somewhere, stick a post-it to the fridge and remain focussed on your goals. We are here to make sure you acheive so we'll certainly be monitoring your progress and we're always on the gym floor to offer motivation, support and advice when needed.

Visitors to Freedom Leisure come in all shapes, sizes, abilities and fitness levels. There isn’t a specific look or type of workout clothing that you should wear.
We want you to feel welcome and to be as comfortable as possible when you come to the gym. Comfort is by far the most important thing to remember! You don’t need expensive footwear and the latest clothing to work out. As long as your clothing is breathable and allows you to move freely then simply wear what you feel comfortable in.
All our centres with gyms have a huge range of workout wear available for sale. The range of training tops and bottoms come in a variety of designs and colours and are very sensibly priced so they won't break the bank. We also have a selection of gym accessories from bags to workout towels, water bottles to training gloves.
Whatever you need we're positive that you will look and feel good in the gym or in your class with our range of workout gear so if you're at all unsure plaese ask at reception and view our current stock. If there's something specific you're after then please ask.
This is a very open question and will differ person to person based on your current activity and fitness levels.
The best answer to this is to speak to your fitness expert during your orientation. However, here are some pointers;
Training only once or twice a week may not give you more than a low level of fitness. Experts say you should train at least three times a week if you want to achieve your health and fitness goals in a reasonable amount of time, and stay fit and healthy.
Training four or five times a week is ideal, but most people find that unachievable due to time constraints, so it’s best to aim for three. This exposes your body to a large enough training stimulus throughout the week, which enables the body to adapt, get stronger, leaner and fitter.
and for how long?
Some people argue that you can get an effective and efficient workout in half an hour if you use the time wisely, but we believe that if you want to make real progress, you should be working out for 45 minutes to an hour. We recommends spending 10 minutes warming up, 30-40 minutes training, and 5-10 minutes cooling down and stretching, Your fitness instructors will be able to show you the best techniques to warm up and cool down.
That said, half hour workouts can be useful for conditioning sessions or interval training and most of our gyms have the instructors and equipment to give you these highly effective structured training session.
