Drowning Prevention Week

Drowning Prevention Week 19-26 June

Swimming isn’t just a critical lifesaving skill, it’s a skill that opens up a lifetime of fun and adventure in and on the water and throughout 2020 and 2021.

Millions of young people have missed out on the opportunity to swim, leaving a dramatic gap in school swimming and water safety education.

  • Drowning Prevention Weeks mission is to help everybody across the UK and Ireland, enjoy water, safely.
  • Get the skills and knowledge to make the right decisions about water safety.
  • The DPW campaign, created by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), encourages parents, schools, leisure centres and communities to use its free water safety resources, to give children the skills to enjoy a lifetime of fun in the water.
  • This year, DPW will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on accessibility to water safety advice, with a particular aim to increase participation from and engagement with, under-represented communities.
