Maldwyn Leisure Centre, operated by us on behalf of Powys County Council, formally opened the doors to its new fitness suite on Monday 10 October.
The completed refurbishment, which has seen £80,000 invested into the community facility by the leisure centre operator in partnership with the council, includes a refurbishment of the gym and extended fitness offering.
The vastly improved gym has new flooring and has been redecorated in order to home state-of-the-art cardio and resistant equipment and an extended and improved free weights and fitness area – providing new and extensive training options for all users, whatever their level of ability.
On top of this, the fitness class programme has been expanded to include ‘ignite’, Freedom Leisure’s exclusive functional training classes – small, action-packed, group training session using the latest gym equipment to transform your gym workout forever – increasing the class programme from 31 to 40 classes per week.
The new fitness area has been designed to meet with current Disability Discrimination Act regulations and includes provision of new inclusive fitness equipment that is Inclusive Fitness Initiative recognised, so the whole community can benefit from the refurbishment.

Finally, personal trainers will be in the gym on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays giving advice, offering free coaching sessions to new members and providing a ‘women’s only’ gym session (Friday 7pm-8pm) to help those who wish to try out weight training.
Denise Hazelwood, Freedom Leisure Centre Manager, said: “This is a popular community facility and now we have a really nice gym, with the very latest equipment, for our visitors to enjoy. Freedom Leisure is committed to supporting local communities to be more active more often and this new gym and extended class programme will certainly help that. We are pleased to have a team in the gym to support users and also offer personal training.”
