Reducing environmental impact at the forefront for Freedom Leisure

March 19 2021

Freedom Leisure work closely with Leisure Energy, an award winning energy saving consultancy, who have successfully delivered a number of projects to minimise the environmental impact of our leisure centres.

Together we recognised the significant funding opportunity offered by the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This Government funded £1bn initiative provides grants for public sector bodies to fund energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures.

Freedom Leisure approached the local authority partners we work with nationally to encourage them to review the opportunities for their regions and support them to apply for funding.

Ashford Borough Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council and Lichfield District Council were all successful in their bids to secure funding from this scheme to invest in energy having measures at leisure centres operated in partnership with Freedom Leisure.

The grant funding totals over £3 million which will result in a carbon reduction of 1040 tonnes every year.

A history of outstanding green achievements

In 2019 - 2020 Freedom Leisure recorded some outstanding results in both energy efficiencies and reductions in carbon emissions:

Minimising environmental impact is a priority for Freedom Leisure right across our organisation. We were delighted with the news that three of our partners were successful in their bids for the Government grant to support plant and equipment improvement projects.
