“Through our dedicated Active Communities services, Freedom Leisure aims to contribute to creating an active nation by working with our valued partners by developing bespoke local programmes to meet local need... where customers, clients and staff matter”Hannah Gilday, Group Active Communities Manager
In Brighton & Hove, we develop a wide range of sporting programmes, working with the Sussex Sports Partnership, local clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport and the English Federation of Disability Sport. In Sussex we sponsor the Sussex Sport Awards to recognise local talent. We also manage a Tennis Academy to support and develop local talented tennis players
We work with children, young people and families across Brighton & Hove of all ages and abilities to encourage them into a more active habit for life. We have a range of holiday activities delivered throught the Breakout Programme, see more at www.brightonbreakout.co.uk and the Junior Summer Fitness Challenge where you can sign up to set yourself tagets for your Summer Hoiday Activities. We also run some fantastic and effective learn to swim opportunities at our thrre swimming pools. Don't forget the fun of the paddling pools along the seafront too!
We support and encourage the whole population of Brighton & Hove, however fit or unfit, to age well. We deliver and support a range of programmes such as our fun and varied 50+ sessions, the walking football sessions and our 'Get to know water' swimming sessions to encourage those older adults resistant to being active, to have fun, socialise and focus on improving mental and physical wellbeing. We are committed to improving opportunities for those facing dementia to remain active.
Across Brighton & Hove we work with community groups and organisations to develop even more opportunities for local people to get involved in fun activities. We support events like the Council's Take Part Festival and other Council delivered events. We have representation on City wide Local Action Teams and suport programmes to help make the most of where people live.
We want to get all people more active, including those who find their working life in Brighton & Hove a reason for not being as active as they may want. As ‘sitting is the new smoking’, we want to work with more local businesses to find out what their employees would love to do with us to get more active around their job. We work with Greater Brighton Metropolitan College, Unvuersity Of Brighton and Sussex University to provide opportunities to volunteer with our teams.
Health and physical activity come hand in hand and we know the importance of preventing health issues later in life. We deliver local health programmes including; GP Referral, Stroke Rehab, work with Cancer Patients and those with Cardio Vascular issues. Our staff across local facilities are trained to encourage everyone who wants to improve their health into an opportunity for them.
