Active Communities Derbyshire Dales works with a wide range of local groups and national partners to get people of all ages and abilities more active across a range of programmes delivered in local communities and leisure facilities.
As the Active Communities Manager for the Derbyshire Dales my priority is to engage local communities through a wide range of activities and programmes. My aim is to provide opportunities for all, reducing barriers and encouraging communities to become more activeAlistair Bagnall, Active Communities Manager - Derbyshire Dales
In the Derbyshire Dales, we develop a wide range of sporting programmes, working with Rura Derbyshire School Sports Partnership, Active Derbyshire, local clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport and the Activity Alliance. In the Derbyshire Dales we support local athletes with our Talented Athlete Scheme to help them with their training.
Active Young People
We work with children, young people and families across the Derbyshire Dales of all ages and abilities to encourage them into a more active habit for life. We have a range of holiday activities including sports mania days; learn to swim opportunities, youth programmes and more.
We encourage all people in the Derbysire Dales to be active, regardless of ability or age. We offer a range of programmes such as Walking Football, Walking Netball and health circuits to encourage those aged 60+ to have fun, socialise and focus on improving mental and physical wellbeing. We are committed to improving opportunities for those facing dementia to remain active.
Across the Derbyshire Dales we work with community groups and organisations to develop even more opportunities for local people to get involved in fun activities. We support events, deliver activities and set up specific community-led programmes to help in making the most of where people live. Follow the leisure centre Facebook pages or Derbyshire Dales District Council's Active Dales Facebook page for community activities.
We want to get as many people as possible more active, including those who find their working life in the Derbyshire Dales a reason for not being as active as they may want. As ‘sitting is the new smoking’, we want to work with more local businesses to find out what their employees would love to do with us to get more active around their job. We work with local schools and partner organisations to provide opportunities to volunteer with Freedom Leisure.
Health and physical activity go hand in hand and we know the importance of preventing health issues later in life. We offer local health programmes including; GP Exercise Referral, Cardiac Rehab and partner with Live Life Better Derbyshire services. Our staff across the centre in the Derbyshire Dales are trained to encourage everyone who wants to improve their health through one of our programmes.
