What is Net Zero?
The term Net Zero means reducing the carbon emitted into the atmosphere to as low as possible with any remaining emissions being neutralised through the permanent removal and storage of carbon from the atmosphere.
Why is this important for leisure centres?
Leisure centres can account for up to 40% of a council's carbon footprint. As a result, we are actively supporting our local authority partners in realising their net zero targets. Our strong sustainability culture demonstrates our commitment to working with our partners, customers, and, most importantly, our staff to meet our ambitious targets.
Our commitments to net zero
Achieve 50% of our leisure centres with at least one form of on-site renewable energy generation.

“Through these commitments we aim to play our part in reducing emissions and contributing to the global target. We acknowledge that we cannot do this in isolation and are committed to supporting and working alongside our partners in the public sector, as well as our suppliers and customers to ensure that through a collective journey we make this happen.”
The environment is a core part of what we do
Our core business of supporting healthy lifestyles goes beyond just people’s physical activity goals but extends to our communities and the environment. It is therefore becoming crucial for us to do everything we can to play our part in tackling the global climate crisis.
