Sarah Thake - Training Manager
Sarah has worked in the leisure industry for 13 years, starting out as an Assistant Swimming teacher and Recreation Assistant at one of our leisure centres. Through her love of learning and self-developing she attended many courses and gained lots of experience in leisure centre roles, finally making the move to become a trainer assessor. Sarah delivered many courses for Freedom Leisure from; First Aid to Personal Training. She also successfully guided apprentices through their learning journey. She now works as the department manager, ensuring the training team provide our students with a great environment to learn.
Rebecca Cook - Work Based Learning Manager. (Currently on maternity leave)
Rebecca has worked in the leisure industry for nearly 21 years and has experience in both operations and training. She is a qualified assessor and IQA and since starting work as an assessor with Freedom Leisure Training in 2012, has progressed from being Work Based Learning Co-ordinator to Work Based Learning Manager. Rebecca oversees apprenticeship delivery and is passionate about the apprenticeship programme within Freedom Leisure.
John Storey-Tennant - Work Based Learning Manager
Having started full time in the leisure industry 23yrs ago as a lifeguard, John has progressed through the ranks to become Supervisor, Duty Manager and Centre manager, before deciding to seize an opportunity to share his wealth of operational experience with the next generation of leisure professionals.
John is one of the original Freedom Leisure employees, having been on board since the trust was founded and has been witness to the extraordinary growth that has been achieved. John is passionate about developing staff, helping to realise their potential and is proud to have influenced many successful careers along the way.
Joining the team as Work Based Learning Manager, John is covering Rebecca Cook’s maternity leave until 31st March 2018.
Keith Welch - Tutor
Keith has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the leisure industry. Since starting as a lifeguard in 1988, Keith’s career forged into teaching and passing on his knowledge and skills to others. Keith delivers courses for Freedom Leisure in Pool Plant operations, First Aid and national pool lifeguard qualifications. In his spare time Keith volunteers as an emergency responder for the local community.
Paul Abbie - Tutor and NPLQ Manager
Paul has worked in the leisure industry for 17 years. Over the course of his career he has worked as a lifeguard and progressed through management before moving into teaching. Paul is a very experienced tutor, he delivers courses in National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications and First Aid. Paul also acts as a quality assurer for all pool lifeguard qualifications, making sure that Freedom Leisure courses are delivered to the highest standard.
Kathy Brown - Fitness Tutor
Kathy has recently joined the training team at Freedom Leisure. She brings with her; years of experience, enthusiasm and knowledge. Kathy has spent 14 years working in leisure centres and is now dedicated to passing on her knowledge. Kathy delivers courses in fitness, from larger courses such as Level 2 Fitness Instruction, to our CPD courses, such as Level 2 Instructing Kettlebells.
Ian Cooper - Internal Quality Assurer
Ian has a keen interest in training, staff development and mentoring employees to realise their potential. Ian qualified as an Assessor in 2009 and an Internal Quality Assurer two years later. With an MA in Sociology of Sport and a BA (hons) in Recreation Management, over twenty years’ experience in the leisure industry and having worked for different training providers, Ian is now heavily involved in the Work Based Learning Programme as an Assessor and Lead IQA. He keeps his knowledge on the latest industry trends up to date by combining this with an operational role at Freedom Leisure.
Danielle Lloyd - AET & Assessor Tutor and Functional Skills Tutor - Maths
Danielle is a highly qualified and experienced teacher. She has been teaching for over 25 years and is passionate about supporting and developing her students. She teaches our courses in; Level 3 Award in Education and Training, the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement and the Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice. She also takes apprentices through their Functional Skills in Maths.
Helen Stockton - Functional Skills Tutor - English
Helen has an MA in Literature and has been teaching English to adults for sixteen years. She is a qualified teacher and assessor, is a published writer, and experienced professional mentor. She offers support to apprentices with their English skills
Dean Battye - Apprenticeship Assessor
Dean has worked in the leisure industry for many years and has extensive on site centre experience. He is now an assessor for our apprentices.
