Adult Swimming Lessons
We offer adult swimming lessons for those who are looking to build their confidence in the water with guidance from an instructor. These sessions are suitable for all abilities, and our friendly coaches will work with you to develop your water skills in a relaxed, motivational environment.
We Follow Swim England's Learn to Swim Pathway
We work in partnership with Swim England to deliver a high quality Learn to Swim Programme for all ages and abilities.
All our instructors are experienced and trained to deliver the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme and are fully DBS checked.

Our main pool is 25m. We also have a small fun pool and a diving pool.
You must be 11yrs+ to use our gym. Anyone under the age of 16 will need to be supervised by an adult (18yrs+) We have allocated times for those aged 11-15 to use the gym. Please visit our ‘Gym Rebels’ timetable.
Yes, parking is available and free for Freedom Leisure customers.
Yes, our school holiday Swimming Crash Courses are designed to teach essential swimming skills in a fun and safe environment. Over just a few days, your child will build confidence in the water, make new friends and learn life-saving skills. Please refer to our Facebook page for details.
This will vary with every swimmer, depending on their skills and experience. Some children are more naturally competent and confident in the water and therefore will progress faster. Other children are slower to learn new skills but can quite often become stronger more proficient swimmers as they progress.
Most children are ready for swim lessons by the age of 4, at which point they can typically learn basic water survival skills such as floating, treading water and getting to an exit point. By age 5 or 6, they can usually master the front crawl. The important thing to remember is it’s never too late to learn how to swim!
Our fantastic swimming lessons take place at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre, Garon Park, Eastern Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 4FA. Can’t make it to our centre? No problem! You can also find swimming lessons at our other Southend Freedom Leisure site Shoeburyness Leisure Centre.
