Guildford Spectrum, operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council, has retained the CIMSPA & IQL UK Lifeguard Triathlon title, winning it for the second year running. The centre won with 97.5 marks out of a possible 100 with the second and third placed facilities scoring 91.3 and 87.9 respectively.
The competition is based on key principles of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), and tests lifeguards' CPR, rescue swim and theory skills.
Spectrum had its strongest ever representation in the competition with 16 males in the top 20 and 11 females in the top 20. They were competing against 717 lifeguards from 38 sites across the country.
Craig Scott and Phil Maynard came joint first in the men’s competition and Maddy Greenwood was second in the ladies’ competition.
"I am extremely proud of all our lifeguards who took part again this year and to be named the top facility for the second year running is a great achievement. We have a rigorous training programme for our lifeguards at Spectrum and we are fortunate to have such a highly skilled team here. It’s gratifying to have their talents recognised nationally in this way and this achievement will instill justifiable pride in their abilities and high standard of work.Natalie Kirk, Freedom Leisure Trainer
