Grand opening of Rhayder new fitness facility

November 7 2016

Rhayader Leisure Centre, operated by us on behalf of Powys County Council, is formally having a grand unveiling of its new fitness suite on Wednesday 16 November.

The completed refurbishment, which has seen £190,000 invested into the community facility by the leisure centre operator in partnership with the council, includes a new gym and extended fitness offering, including a new state-of-the-art Myride studio.

The vastly improved gym was relocated and now homes new brand new cardio and resistant equipment and an improved free weights and fitness area – providing extensive training options for all users, whatever their level of ability.

The new fitness area has been designed to meet with current Disability Discrimination Act regulations and includes provision of new inclusive fitness equipment that is Inclusive Fitness Initiative recognised, so the whole community can benefit from the refurbishment.

The centres snooker table for the local snooker club has also been moved to its own private area at the back of the centre so that members of the snooker club have their own private area for meetings.

Tim Davies, Freedom Leisure Centre Manager, said: “This is an important and popular community facility and we are pleased that we now have a really nice modern gym for local residents to use. The new Myride studio is proving really popular with residents who can now enjoy virtual indoor cycling classes with no need for an instructor, meaning they can do a class that fits in with their schedule. Rhayader Leisure Centre is one of few centres in the county to offer this fantastic virtual exercise class option.”

Powys County Council Cabinet Member for Commissioning, Councillor Graham Brown said: “This investment and improvement work at Rhayader Leisure Centre demonstrates the commitment of the council to provide leisure facilities to our communities. I am sure that local residents will be very happy with the new facilities and extended offering.”
