Supporting Drowning Prevention Week: Helping Our Community Stay Safe Around Water

Did you know that over 55% of parents surveyed said they would not be confident their child would know what to do if they fell into open water?

This statistic is a reminder of the importance of water safety education and a call to action for all of us. With figures indicating that around 25% of primary school children leave school unable to swim, and many more lacking the ability or confidence to swim or self-rescue, should they find themselves in difficulty in the water.

Our centre is proud to support the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s (RLSS UK) Drowning Prevention Week, taking place Saturday 14 June to Saturday 21 June 2025. Drowning Prevention Week aims to equip everybody across the UK and Ireland with the skills and knowledge, to make the right decisions about water safety. Over 300 people accidentally drown in the UK and Ireland every year and many more suffer injury, sometimes life-changing, when they survive drowning.

We agree with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) that water safety information should be accessible to all, and that’s why we’re supporting Drowning Prevention Week this year by incorporating water safety information into all our swimming lessons.

We want to inspire children to have a positive relationship with water, with all the mental and physical benefits of being in, on, and around water and enjoy a lifetime of fun in the water, safely. Ask reception about ways your child can gain water safety skills and knowledge.
