The new 5 year agreement follows the original 10-year contract awarded in 2016, under which Freedom Leisure has successfully operated Perdiswell Leisure Centre, St Johns Sports Centre, Nunnery Wood Sports Complex, and the Healthy Communities programmes.

As part of this contract extension, we are proud to commit to a programme of significant investment aimed at enhancing facilities, improving energy efficiency, and providing a more inclusive and engaging experience for our community. Planned improvements include:

  • Perdiswell Leisure Centre
    • Comprehensive refurbishment of fitness facilities
    • Installation of a backwash water recovery system to improve energy efficiency
    • Upgraded CCTV system to enhance safety and security

  • St Johns Sports Centre
    • Refurbishment of fitness facilities
    • Replacement and upgrade of the 3G football pitch to provide a modern, high-quality playing surface

The fitness refurbishments at both Perdiswell and St Johns will feature state-of-the-art equipment from our partners at Life Fitness. Designed in line with current industry trends and accessibility standards, the new layouts and technology will create a welcoming environment for users of all ages and abilities. The upgraded equipment and facility design will enable a wider range of activities and fitness programmes, further enhancing the user experience.

Our commitment to replacing the 3G pitch at St Johns Sports Centre reflects our dedication to maintaining high-quality sports infrastructure and ensuring continued access to modern and inclusive sporting environments.

We’re delighted to have been awarded the management contract by Worcester City Council for a further 5-year term. Since 2016 when we commenced our management contract in Worcester we have seen an increase in footfall across all the centres in Worcester and we have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from the people of Worcester on the improvements we’ve made to date and continue to do so. Between Worcester City Council and ourselves, we have committed to a significant investment over the next 5 years to better the facilities and reduce our impact on the environment and we look forward to working with the different stakeholders to improve the lives of the people of Worcester through leisure

Ivan Horsfall Turner, Freedom Leisure’s CEO

We’ve proven over the years and through some difficult times that partnership with organisations, and this partnership with a non-profit company, has delivered on the whole for Worcester. “All these sports centres are still open and the swimming pool is still functional. I’m also absolutely thrilled that Freedom Leisure are joining the Real Living Wage family.

Worcester City Council leader Lynn Denham

This ongoing partnership underscores Freedom Leisure’s long-term commitment to enhancing community wellbeing through sustainable, inclusive, and innovative leisure services.
