About Izaak Walton's Cottage
Once owned by the renowned author of “The Complete Angler”, Izaac Walton, the cottage is a grade II listed, 17th Century timber framed building in Shallowford, not far from the M6. It is now a museum offering the visitor a glimpse at life in the 17th century as well as a comprehensive fishing collection from the period. Visitors may want to simply sit in the grounds or visit our reading room and second-hand book library where you can follow Izaacs advice of “Study to be Quiet” The site also has tea and coffee available as well as toilet facilities including an ambulant toilet. With picnic benches provided you are welcome to bring your own picnic, It makes a perfect stop if your travelling along the M6 too.

Events
The rural location of the cottage provides a perfect setting for a number of events throughout the year. Our popular annual Teddy Bear Picnic being one of them. A safe, child friendly site with picnic benches placed in a garden setting, give you the chance to sit and relax on any day but our bespoke workshops may catch your eye with wide ranging topics such as aromatherapy, Willow weaving and art classes on offer. Constantly changing, please don’t miss out on booking your space as early as possible as this is an intimate location with limited spaces available
Group Tours
The cottage itself may be small but we pride ourselves on a bespoke service which has seen us host groups from Guides to Tai Chi, U3A to angling groups. Talk to us about your ideas and we will be happy to help them come to life.
Educational Tours
An important place in history with an important owner too, right on your doorstep. Our tour here utilises all the space of the interior and exterior to give the children and active and engaging day with experienced guides who will really bring their subject to life. Talk to our tour co Ordinator to organise your visit.
Weddings
A perfect place for a small intimate wedding, we offer a bespoke service based on your wishes and can help you with all aspects of your wedding. Please call us at the Ancient High House to discuss your perfect day.
