Orange Button Scheme

Freedom Leisure colleagues join a community of people trained in suicide awareness

Freedom Leisure Colleagues Complete Orange Button Training to Support Mental Health

Some of our Freedom Leisure colleagues have now completed the Orange Button Training, enabling them to have safe and supportive conversations around the difficult topic of suicide. We have taken part in this important initiative because we believe our projects and facilities are more than just gyms – they are hubs for wellbeing, where our community can access the support or signposting they need.

The Orange Button Training, part of Worcestershire County Council’s community scheme, provides colleagues with the skills to recognise signs of emotional distress and offer practical support. This training is a key part of our commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all our members and staff.

We are incredibly proud that some of our colleagues have taken part in this training and are confidently wearing their orange buttons. This ensures that everyone who visits our facilities feels safe, supported, and empowered to seek help when needed. It's vital to break the stigma around needing help and to remind people that it’s okay to not be okay. Having completed the training myself, I’m now equipped to share a glossary of support and signpost anyone who confides in me to a wider network of help.
