To be eligible for The Talented Athletes Scheme, the following criteria must apply
- Ranked nationally for your sport/activity
- Compete in a sport that is recognised by Sport England and/or Sport Wales
- Live in a Borough or District that Freedom Leisure operate facilities
- Aged 11+
What can you expect from the programme?
- On completion of a successful application – A free 12 month membership at your local leisure centre
- Access to facilities (gym, swim and group exercise classes) to support your training programme
- Access to additional facilities (courts, track, ice) can be added if relevant to your application and available for use at off peak times within public sessions and not exclusively
- Access to member benefits via the Freedom Leisure app (where applicable)
Stafford's FLAIR Members
Harry Kirby - Canoe slalom
Harry Kirby, who is ranked as the highest performing English paddler for his age, is hoping to follow in the footsteps of past Olympic silver medallists from Stafford & Stone Canoe Club as he aims to reach the GB Olympic Junior Squads this season. Harry accesses Stone Leisure Centre as part of the FLAIR scheme helping him with his training regime for the Junior GB team selections in March and April.
For the last two years Harry been competing at the highest level in the Premier Division and is currently ranked 22. He has also represented England at several international races including premier paddle event the Celtic Cup.
Thomas Kent - Canoe Slalom
Thomas is a canoe slalom athlete from Stone and he uses his membership to keep on top of his land based training in the gym. Although he’s currently injured and unable to train properly on the water he’s still using his membership to keep fit.
He competes in Canoe slalom in canoe, kayak and kayak cross and travels the UK and often Europe competing and training.
Theo Wright - Canoe Slalom
Theo came 5th in GB selection narrowly missing out on the top 3 needed to be selected. He is a member of the England National Talent Squad.
