Active Futures is a skills and employability programme for Year 10 to Year 13 students, designed to help young people prepare for the world of work. The programme provides practical support, guidance, and experience to help participants develop the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed for their future careers.

Whether you're considering further education, an apprenticeship, part-time work, or your first full-time role, Active Futures will help you take the next step.

Who is the Programme For?

Who is the Programme For?

Active Futures is open to students in Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 who want to improve their employability skills, gain workplace knowledge, and explore future career opportunities.

The programme is particularly suitable for young people who:

  • Want to build confidence for employment.
  • Need support with applications and interviews.
  • Are considering a career in leisure, fitness, sport, or customer service.
  • Would like to gain valuable skills and industry experience.

The Six Active Future Workshops

The Six Active Future Workshops

Throughout the programme, participants will complete six interactive workshops:

Workshop 1: Knowing Your Strengths

Identify your skills, interests, and career aspirations while building confidence and self-awareness.

Workshop 2: CV Writing and Personal Statements

Learn how to create a professional CV and write effective personal statements that stand out to employers.

Workshop 3: Job Searching and Applications

Explore job opportunities, understand recruitment processes, and learn how to complete successful applications.

Workshop 4: Interview Skills

Develop practical interview techniques, take part in mock interviews, and learn how to make a positive first impression.

Workshop 5: Workplace Skills

Understand employer expectations, workplace behaviour, communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

Workshop 6: Careers in Leisure and Next Steps

Discover career pathways within the leisure industry and create a personal action plan for your future.

Real Career Opportunities

Real Career Opportunities

Active Futures is more than a classroom-based programme. Participants will gain insight into the leisure industry and the variety of careers available within Freedom Leisure, from customer service and fitness instruction to lifeguarding and management.

The programme is designed to help young people understand what employers are looking for and provide practical steps towards employment in the future.

Qualification Opportunities

Qualification Opportunities

Participants who successfully complete the full Active Futures programme and demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm may be eligible for partially or fully funded industry-recognised training opportunities.

Subject to availability, individuals interested in pursuing a career within the leisure sector may be supported to gain either the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or a Level 1 Fitness Instructor Qualification. These qualifications provide a valuable route into employment and could be the first step towards a rewarding career with Freedom Leisure.
