Types of yoga classes provided at Wtihdean Sports Complex
Yin Yoga
If you’re after peace and relaxation, this is the class for you. In Yin Yoga you can expect to hold poses for 3-5 minutes which will help increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. Props are used to make it comfortable and calming. This gentle style of yoga is ideal for those who don’t want to exert themselves too much or use up a lot of energy.
Yoga Flow
Combining Hatha, Vinyasa and mindful flow, this fun and dynamic class will help you get out of your head and into your body. Movements are aligned with controlled breathing to develop a strong core connection and incorporate balance of movement with deeper stretching. This style of yoga is generally not suitable for beginners or pregnancy.
Sun Power Yoga
This class incorporates three different styles of yoga - Sivanada for breathing, Ashtanga for stamina, heat and flexibility and Hatha for alignment. Harnessing all three styles increases clarity of the mind, creates freedom in movement and allows one to simply be.
Somatics Yoga
Somatics Yoga is a very nurturing practice that is both therapeutic and gentle. Movement is undertaken with awareness whilst breathing is carefully controlled. This holistic approach can help calm the body’s fight or flight response by releasing tension stored in the body. It promotes balance of mental and emotional traumas in the body, as well as loosening up chronically tight muscles. This style of yoga is suitable for everyone.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha is a generic term that encompasses any type of yoga involving physical postures. Hatha classes consist of a gentle flow of postures aimed at enhancing relaxation and loosening the body. It is best suited to those who want to ease themselves into yoga fitness and begin to understand the connection between the mind and body.
Scaravelli Yoga
Scaravelli inspired yoga is both a gentle and powerful form of Hatha yoga that uses gravity and breath to release the spine and energise the body. It aids relaxation, relieves stress, increases flexibility and improves the cardio function of the lungs. Classes normally involve laying down and exploring the Hatha poses deep within our own bodies.
Vinyasa Yoga
This style of yoga involves mastering smooth and seamless transitions as you move from one pose to the next. This will normally include a dynamic, flowing standing movement, a flowing energetic standing movement, followed by a seated movement, and ending with relaxation.
Forever Active Yoga
A gentle, low impact class for seniors and those who want to mobilise joints gently, stretch carefully and improve core strength gradually. This type of yoga includes mindfulness and relaxation techniques.
Yang/Yin Release
A Yang/Yin class begins with a sequence of strong yoga poses aiming to elevate the heart rate and strengthen muscles, followed by restorative yin poses using blocks and bricks, designed to relax the body and mind.
De-Stress Yoga
As well as relaxing, stretching and strengthening, you will learn about exercises and techniques you can do anywhere and anytime to help you stay calm and centred - whether you're in the office, on the motorway, at the shops, with the kids, or any other potentially stressful situation you may face in a typical day.
