Creating Opportunities Through Swimming

Creating Opportunities Through Swimming

The project targets children from lower income backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to build confidence, learn essential swimming skills, and enjoy year-round access to the pool. Four local schools are already participating in the scheme: Beaver Green, John Wesley, East Stour, and Ashford Oaks. Thirty nominated students from these schools receive free swimming lessons, full swimming kits, and unlimited access to the pool from October 2024 to October 2025.

One of the project’s highlights was welcoming the Mayor of Ashford, who saw first-hand how the initiative is positively impacting local children. Loveashford also visited and were impressed by the results, while ITV captured the sessions to share the story with the wider community.

One of the swim teachers said, “I’m amazed at how hard these kids work. They really want to do well, and I’m honoured to teach them such an important life skill.” The project reflects the Stour Centre’s vision to make swimming more inclusive and its mission to break down financial, logistical, and social barriers.

Making a Lasting Difference

With recognition from Swim England, the Zoggs Project demonstrates how partnerships between local organisations and national brands can make a meaningful difference in children’s lives, helping them feel safe and confident in the water while developing a love of swimming.
