Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit leisure trust who reinvest surplus back into facilities for the community. They specialise in the operations of community leisure services with the intention of increasing the number of people accessing facilities and participating in an active lifestyle.

Why is there a change to the operating company?

Over the last 10 years East Northamptonshire’s three centres have been operated by Aspirations Wellbeing on behalf of the council with the contract coming up for renewal in April 2017 – the end of any contract brings with it the opportunity of review and this change means that the three centres will benefit from the opportunities that being part of a bigger organisation brings.

We are extremely proud to have been appointed as East Northamptonshire Council’s community leisure partner to operate the Nene Centre, Pemberton Leisure & Conference Centre and Splash Leisure Pool and to develop a new Sports and Physical Activity Outreach service to operate across the whole district. Our proposals include significant investment in facilities and services in order to assist us achieve the objective we share with the Council, of making a sustainable impact on levels of physical activity and wellbeing within East Northamptonshire.

What next?

The council will be working with Freedom Leisure and the wider community to reach a number of target groups at community centres and out in the rural villages. These include older people, children, young people and those with disabilities. We believe big improvements can be made in residents' health and wellbeing by encouraging greater participation in physical activities. We will work hard to ensure the transition to Freedom Leisure is as seamless as possible. You will see the same staff working in your local leisure centre, but they will be wearing a new Freedom Leisure uniform.
