A Shared Mission for Our Community

A Shared Mission for Our Community

At Tenterden Leisure Centre, we are proud to stand alongside The Mildred Trust in supporting our community. The charity, rooted in compassion and innovation, is dedicated to tackling food insecurity, encouraging creativity, promoting sustainability and creating equal opportunities for children and young people. Together, we are making a difference to local lives every single day.

Community Fridge

Community Fridge

In January 2025, we proudly welcomed the very first Community Fridge to Tenterden Leisure Centre in partnership with The Mildred Trust. This fridge is open to everyone, providing access to free, fresh food while also preventing food waste. Surplus items from supermarkets, businesses, producers and households are shared with the community, helping families save money and promoting environmental sustainability.

The Community Shop

The Community Shop

Also based at Tenterden Leisure Centre, the Community Shop is another example of The Mildred Trust’s innovative approach. Open to all, the shop offers heavily discounted food, cleaning and hygiene products. With every £20 of shopping costing just £6, this initiative is helping households stretch their budgets while still accessing a wide range of items, including pet food and specialist dietary options (gluten free, sugar free, halal, kosher etc). Unlike a food bank, the Community Shop provides low-cost choice and dignity, ensuring everyone can get what they need.

The Old Schoolhouse Larder

The Old Schoolhouse Larder

We are also proud to host The Old Schoolhouse Larder here at Tenterden Leisure Centre. These sessions continue to provide free non-perishable groceries, household essentials and hygiene goods for families with children under 18. Fresh bread, milk and fruit and vegetable vouchers are often available, helping to ease the pressure on family budgets.

Looking Ahead Together

Looking Ahead Together

By working with The Mildred Trust, Tenterden Leisure Centre has become more than just a place for fitness and recreation. It is also a hub for community care and support. Together, we will continue building a stronger, more resilient future for local people.
