at tandridge leisure centre we aim to provide the best swimming lessons in the area, with well-structured, rewarding, affordable and fun lessons for all ages and abilities. all our instructors are qualified and have undergone an enhanced DBS check.

adult and child - pre-school

Our goal is to teach your baby to swim and learn how to be safe around the water, using play and song. Learning to swim at an early age reduces chances of children developing a fear of the water. Please note: a parent/guardian must be in the water at all times.

adult and child 1 (5 months - 18 months)
tuesday 10am; wednesday 10am; thursday 10am; friday 10.30am

adult and child 2 (18 months - 3 yrs)
tuesday 10.30am; wednesday 10.30am; thursday 10.30am; friday 11.30am

adult and child 3 (3 yrs+)
thursday 11am; friday 11am

pre-school non swimmer (3yrs+) 
Takes place in the lagoon area. Parent/guardian is not required in the water.
tuesday 9.30am & 11am; wednesday 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm; saturday 9am & 9.30am

pre-school beginners (4yrs+) 
Takes place in the shallow end of the fitness pool. Child must be able to stand in shallow end 0.9m.
wednesday 1.30pm & 2pm; thursday 11.30am

lagoon non swimmers (4 - 5yrs only) 
An introduction to group lessons for complete non swimmers, taking place in the shallow end of the lagoon pool. Through play and movement in the water, children become more confident.
tuesday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm; friday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm;
saturday 9am & 9.30am


beginners - advanced

beginners 1 (4yrs+) 
This class will introduce and improve the three main swimming strokes. Pupils will also learn new water skills such as floating, basic safety awareness, water confidence and swimming underwater. (Must be able to stand in 0.9m.)
monday 4pm & 4.30pm; tuesday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; thursday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; friday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm; saturday 10am & 10.30am

beginners 2 (5yrs+) 
For stronger beginners who are able to swim 5 metres front crawl and back crawl. This will improve your child’s swimming ability and takes place in the deep end of the lagoon pool.
monday 4pm & 4.30pm; tuesday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; thursday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; friday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm; saturday 10am & 10.30am

older beginners (6yrs+) 
This class takes place in the deep end of the lagoon. Pupils will learn basic strokes and will become more confident in the water.

improvers 1 (5yrs+) 
For pupils who can swim 10 metres on their front and back. Swimmers will improve their strokes and develop their breathing skills.
monday 4pm & 4.30pm; tuesday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; thursday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; friday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm; saturday 10am & 10.30am

improvers 2 (5yrs+) 
Introduces a wide range of other skills such as sculling, rotation skills and treading water. Swimmers will be using the main strokes emphasising the importance of good streamlining and breath control.

advanced (6yrs+) 
This class will develop effective swimming skills including co-ordinated breathing and will introduce diving and survival skills.
monday 4pm & 4.30pm; tuesday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; thursday 4pm, 4.30pm & 5pm; friday 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm & 5.30pm; saturday 10am & 10.30am

special needs swimming lessons (5yrs+) 
Specialist swimming lessons for those with a disability or learning difficulty. Lessons are 20min and are taught on a one to one basis.

challenge - nplq

challenge ½ hour (6yrs+)
This is a 30min class for children who are capable of swimming at least 25 metres. Pupils will improve their stamina and stroke technique.
tuesday 5.30pm & 6pm; wednesday 4pm & 4.30pm; friday 5.30pm & 6pm

challenge 1hr (8yrs+)
This 1 hour session is for children who are able to swim at least 25 metres. Pupils will progress their stamina whilst maintaining their stroke techniques. Pupils will develop a higher level of water skills, including tumble turns.
monday 5pm; tuesday 5.30pm; thursday 5.30pm; friday 6pm; saturday 11am

teen fitness sessions (13yrs+)
Love swimming and want to improve your fitness? Join in to get tips on how to improve your stroke and build up your stamina.
tuesday 5.30pm; thursday 5.30pm

rookie lifesaving (8yrs+)
This class is for pupils who want to learn skills including self rescue, rescue of others, how to respond in an emergency and water safety.
friday 6pm

survive & save (12yrs+)
Classes are for those who want to further their knowledge of lifesaving. Bronze/Silver is for those who are starting in lifesaving or progression from Rookie, and then progress to Silver/Gold. The awards teach lifesaving rescue, self-rescue, survival, lifesaving sport skills and also develop swimming ability and fitness.
tuesday 6.45pm (bronze); tuesday 7.30pm (silver)

national pool lifeguard qualification (16yrs+)
This NPLQ course is a nationally-recognised qualification. Being a lifeguard offers a fantastic foundation to a career in the leisure industry. Courses are ongoing. Please contact Lisa O’Donnell for more info at lisa.o'donnell@freedom-leisure.co.uk


adult lessons

Our adult lessons are designed for pupils aged 16 years and over. If you have never swum before and would like to learn how to swim, or would like to brush up on your strokes, we have a class for you. All classes are taught by qualified instructors who recognise individual needs and will work on them through gentle practise.

adult beginners - tuesday 8.15pm; wednesday 11am
adult improvers - tuesday 9pm; wednesday 11am
adult swimfit (instruction on your stroke & hints/tips) - wednesday 12pm
