Swimming is a great form of exercise for the whole body. It can help improve your overall health and strengthen your heart. The swimming pool provides a great environment for a warm up or cool down after a strenuous exercise class or gym workout and is also a very effective exercise in its own right, burning over 200kcal in half an hour.

The water provides additional resistance for your muscle groups to work against while supporting some of your body weight to reduce the strain on your joints.

Swimming is an activity the whole family can enjoy as well as a vital life skill to learn. It's a great way to cool down on hot days or to escape the rain during the traditional English summer. The teaching pool is 0.9m in depth and boasts interactive water features that shoot out jets of water to entertain and increase water confidence in children. We also run Inflatafun sessions every Saturday and during the school holidays.

Pool Admission Policy

All children under 8 must be accompanied and supervised in the water by a responsible adult. An adult may only take responsibility for a maximum of two children under the age of 8 years. The accompanying adult must be either the child's parent or an adult aged 16 or over and must actively supervise the child/children in the pool. Children under 8 years who are weak or non-swimmers must wear approved buoyancy aids or will need to be supervised by an adult on a ratio of one to one.

Children 8 years and over are welcome to swim unaccompanied during open swim sessions but guardians must consider the child’s swimming ability before leaving them unattended.

We have a variety of well structured, rewarding, affordable and fun lessons for all abilities from birth upwards. All of our swimming instructors are qualified and have all undergone an enhanced DBS checks.

Here at Summerfields Leisure Centre we follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway. This means your child will be following a nationally recognised syllabus and award system produced by swimming's governing body.
