Freedom Swim School works in partnership Swim England delivering the Learn to Swim Framework.

Preschool Framework

Discovery Ducklings 1-4

  • Adult and Child lessons for children from birth accompanied in the water by parent/guardian. These sessions deliver water confidence and skills through songs and games.

Ducklings 1-4

  • Suitable for children 3-5 years in accompanied Adult & Child lessons or unaccompanied Preschool lessons from 3 years gaining water confidence and basic swimming skills.
Learn to Swim Pathway Stage 1 - 7

Learn to Swim Pathway Stage 1 - 7

Stage 1

  • Entry point for children from 5 years who are new to swimming or still requiring aids to swim. Water confidence and core aquatic skills.
  • Outcome: to gain confidence with flotation, submersion and basic movement skills.

Stage 2

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 1 or those that are water confident and starting to swim independently on front and back. At this stage children will be introduced moving on their front and back in the water using core aquatic skills
  • Outcome: to develop swimming skills alongside water confidence

Stage 3

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 2. At this stage children will be travelling using a basic leg and arm action for all 4 strokes using core aquatic skills
  • Outcome: to be confident travelling on front and back in the water unaided

Stage 4

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 3. Children will be further developing their stroke technique across all 4 strokes and improving water skills such as sculling and treading water.
  • Outcome: to be able to tread water, show basic stroke technique and have the ability to kick 10m on all 4 strokes

Stage 5

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 4 or those that have the ability to kick 10m on all 4 strokes 
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 10m on all 4 strokes, have a good standard of stroke technique and water safety.

Stage 6

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 5. Children will continue to improve stroke technique and water skills including personal survival practices.
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 25m on all 4 strokes, have experience in swimming with clothes and a good standard of stroke technique across all strokes.

Stage 7

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 6. Children will be improving stroke techniques and stamina. Also further developing their knowledge and understanding of water safety and personal survival.
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 50m on all 4 strokes
Aquatic Skills Stage 8 - 10

Aquatic Skills Stage 8 - 10

Stage 8-10 Competitive Swimming

  • Swimmers need to have completed Stage 7 or be of a competent standard in all strokes, have knowledge of stroke starts and turns. To be able to swim 200m continuously without undue stress. This programme continues to develop the competitive swimming skills including starts, turns and finishes.

RLSS Rookie Lifeguard

  • The Rookie programme offers a new challenge to young swimmers who wish to learn water safety and lifesaving skills. Suitable for swimmers who have completed Stage 7 or those who are confident in deep water, with the ability to tread water for 3 minutes and swim 100m without stress.

Swimming Development

  • Suitable for children who have completed the learn to swim pathway but still wish to undertake new challenges while further developing their stroke technique and stamina. These lessons follow the Swimming Club Awards 1-6

 1:1 swimming lessons

  • These sessions provide children with individual attention and a faster learning rate. They can focus on either specific swimming skills / stroke technique or follow the relevant stage in the Swim England syllabus.
