Swimming is a great activity for the whole family to participate in together. Have fun splashing around and practicing the life skill of swimming, a great way to cool down on hot days or to escape the rain during the traditional British summer.
A gentle swim can burn over 200 Kcal in half an hour. As water is 12 times as dense as air, swimming is a far more effective way of toning your muscles than any other form of cardiovascular exercise that you can do on land. Swimming can support up to 90% of the body’s weight in the water, meaning that those with disabilities, injuries or illnesses like arthritis can take part in a comfortable and safe environment. Swimming will help your wellbeing. 30 minutes of swimming 3 times per week have also seen improved sleep patterns & lower stress levels.
Here at Rhayader, we have a unique 20 meter pool with an adjacent Jacuzzi. It is ideal for swimming lengths or a gentle swim to help with everyday strains of life. Keep an eye out for our inflatable DRAGON, which comes out over the school holidays or for parties!
We offer a range of swimming sessions which include 60’s free swim, early swim, parent & toddler, parent & under 8, under 16’s free swim, family swim, fun splash, adult only and public swim.
I regularly use the swimming pool in Rhayader Leisure Centre mostly at least twice a week and the pool and facilities are brill and the staff are very helpfulGill
All children under the age of 8 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Children under the age of 4 must be accompanied by a responsible person on a 1 to 1 basis.
Children aged between 4 and 7 must be accompanied by a responsible person on a maximum 2 to 1 basis.
Non or Weak Swimmers
Are advised to wear armbands or other suitable buoyancy aids.
All children under the age of 8 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult , aged 16 and over, whilst in the pool. The adult must maintain a constant watch over the child they are responsible for and pay even greater attention to any weak or non-swimmers.

Rhayader offers a wide variety of swimming classes for both children and adults, whether it is to improve your stroke or you're starting from scratch, Freedom Leisure swim school is perfect for all. Classes are taught by qualified instructors, who use ASA criteria to assess and work towards badges or awards.
All of our teachers are friendly, approachable, willing to help and want all their students to get as much as possible out of their swimming lessons.
