Jointly funded by Brighton & Hove City Council and Freedom Leisure, the work has been carried out as part of the council’s Sports Facilities Investment Plan. which aims to improve sports facilities in the city and provide a range of opportunities for residents to get active.
The new gym opened to users in late December, ready for residents to embark on a new health and fitness journey in the New Year.
Cutting the ribbon to open the refurbished gym, Cllr Amanda Grimshaw BEM said: “This exciting new facility has almost doubled the size of the previous gym, offering people from the local community the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of new equipment, become healthier and tackle those New Year’s resolutions!
“The gym has been designed to cater for a wide range of ages and abilities, including pupils from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy and it was great to meet some of them at the opening ceremony.
“I’d like to thank the council’s sports facilities team, Freedom Leisure and Shellmar Construction for all their hard work and dedication in making this amazing development possible. It’s another step forward in our commitment to improve sports facilities in the city and provide opportunities for residents to get active.”
