The refurbishment forms part of Gloucester City Council’s wider £8 million investment programme to revamp and modernise both Oxstalls Sports Park and GL1 Leisure Centre, helping to enhance leisure provision across the city.

At the heart of the Oxstalls project is the creation of a brand-new social hub, designed to provide a brighter, more comfortable and environmentally friendly space for visitors. Customers can now relax and recharge with coffee, a full range of drinks, snacks and light bites in a modern new setting.

Further enhancements across the sports park include upgraded indoor court and outdoor pitch lighting to improve visibility and playing conditions, alongside refurbished grass pitch changing facilities to enhance comfort and quality for teams and officials. Live sport will also be available on the televisions in the social hub.

The Mayor and Mayoress visited as part of Oxstalls Sports Park’s open weekend that took place on 25 & 26 April. Throughout the weekend, customers were able to enjoy tennis taster sessions for adults and children, family fun tennis and a range of activities for children including soft play and inflatables.

It was great to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress to Oxstalls Sports Park open weekend to showcase these exciting improvements. We are committed to developing local facilities that improve lives through leisure and this wider investment from Gloucester City Council will help create even better opportunities for our customers and the local community.

Places like Oxstalls are about far more than buildings alone. They are about people, spending time together, people of all ages having somewhere welcoming, active and positive at the heart of our communities. What has been created here is far more than a simple upgrade. The new social hub and changing facilities will make a real difference to the experience people have here, whether they are playing, coaching, supporting from the sidelines, volunteering, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

Cllr. Ashley Bowkett

Mayor of Gloucester

The refurbished facilities demonstrate a shared commitment from Freedom Leisure and Gloucester City Council to providing high-quality leisure opportunities for residents across Gloucester.
