Kate tentatively started her fitness journey last year with the help of Freedom Leisure. Kate joined our Active Lifestyles scheme following a referral from her GP. Having never stepped foot in to a leisure centre environment before Kate found this a nerve-racking and daunting experience. However, with the help of our welcoming team, she soon found her footing and started to make lifelong friends. She now attends multiple sessions across our New Forest centres, including Health Circuits and Aqua Classes. Remarkably, she has lost 15kg since embarking on her journey and is feeling great physically, however Kate says that the biggest impact has been on her mental health and how her confidence has increased so dramatically since first starting in the Shape Up 4 Life classes.
1 year on since starting her journey with Freedom Leisure Kate embarked on her biggest challenge yet, Walk All Over Cancer, for Cancer Research UK. The challenge was to walk 10,000 steps every day for the entire month of March. Kate felt inspired to complete the challenge due to her and her husband’s cancer diagnosis which came within months of each other. Kate’s newfound fitness and confidence levels enabled her to successfully complete the challenge and raise over £1,100 for Cancer Research UK.
We are so proud of Kate and what she has achieved, she has shown how increased activity improves lives both physically and mentally. As Freedom Leisure we are proud to work with our local community to make leisure facilities and activities available to all.
