Preschool Framework

Discovery Ducklings 1-4

  • Adult and Child lessons for children from 4 months old accompanied in the water by parent/guardian. These sessions deliver water confidence and skills through songs and games.

Ducklings 1-4

  • Suitable for children 2-4 years in accompanied Adult & Child lessons or unaccompanied Preschool lessons from 3 years gaining water confidence and basic swimming skills.
Learn to Swim Pathway Stage 1 - 7

Learn to Swim Pathway Stage 1 - 7

Stage 1

  • Entry point for children from 4 years who are new to swimming or still requiring aids to swim. Water confidence and basic swimming skills.
  • Outcome: to gain confidence with flotation, submersion and basic movement skills.

Stage 2

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 1 or those that are water confident and starting to swim independently on front and back. At this stage children will be introduced to frontcrawl and backstroke with arm recovery over the water.
  • Outcome: to develop swimming skills, including body position, leg action and arm movements on both back and front and the ability to swim 5m unaided.

Stage 3

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 2 or can swim 5m on front with face in the water and 5m on back. At this stage children will be developing Front Crawl breathing techniques and Backstroke but also experience of the breast stroke and butterfly leg actions.
  • Outcome: to be confident with Front Crawl and Backstroke, also familiar with Breaststroke leg action and have the ability to swim 10m unaided.

Stage 4

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 3 or can swim 10m confidently on both front and back. Children will be further developing their stroke technique across all 4 strokes and improving water skills such as sculling and treading water.
  • Outcome: to be able to tread water, show basic stroke technique and have the ability to swim 25m.

Stage 5

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 4 or those that can swim 25m confidently on both front and back in recognised strokes.
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 50m, have a good standard of stroke technique and water safety.

Stage 6

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 5 or those that can swim 50m confidently. Children will continue to improve stroke technique and water skills including personal survival practices.
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 100m, have experience in swimming with clothes and a good standard of stroke technique across all strokes.

Stage 7

  • Suitable for children who have gained Stage 6 or those that can swim 100m demonstrating 3 different strokes. Children will be improving stroke techniques and stamina. Also further developing their knowledge and understanding of water safety and personal survival.
  • Outcome: to be able to swim 200m, show efficient stroke technique in at least 3 out of 4 strokes and have knowledge of touch turns.
Aquatic Skills Stage 8 - 10

Aquatic Skills Stage 8 - 10

Stage 8-10 Competitive Swimming

  • Swimmers need to have completed Stage 7 or be of a competent standard in all strokes, have knowledge of stroke starts and turns. To be able to swim 200m continuously without undue stress. This programme continues to develop the competitive swimming skills including starts, turns and finishes.

Stage 8-10 Diving / Water Polo / Sychronised Swimming

  • Swimmers who have completed Stage 7 or those who are confident in deep water, with the ability to tread water for 3 minutes and swim 100m without stress.

RLSS Rookie Lifeguard

  • The Rookie programme offers a new challenge to young swimmers who wish to learn water safety and lifesaving skills. Suitable for swimmers who have completed Stage 7 or those who are confident in deep water, with the ability to tread water for 3 minutes and swim 100m without stress.

Swimming Development / Worcester Swim Club

  • Suitable for children who have completed the learn to swim pathway but still wish to undertake new challenges while further developing their stroke technique and stamina. We also work with Worcester Swimmimng Club in close partnership all of our talented students at level 8 and onwards are recommended through to the club via our 'Link Lane'. 

 1:1 & 1:2 swimming lessons

  • These sessions provide children with individual attention and a faster learning rate. They can focus on either specific swimming skills / stroke technique or follow the relevant stage in the Swim England syllabus.
