Operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Blackbridge Charitable Community Benefit Society, Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub continues to strengthen its role as a centre for health, wellbeing and community support by welcoming organisations that make a positive difference.
Rugby for Heroes works with the rugby community to raise funds and awareness for military personnel transitioning to civilian life. The charity is committed to providing financial and personal support to help serving and former members of the armed forces overcome the challenges that can come with life after service.
Working alongside Freedom Leisure, Rugby for Heroes has already established a programme of four courses at Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub, supporting veterans and service leavers through its Transition Through Rugby Course. The programme includes the nationally recognised Level 2 England Rugby Coaching Award, giving participants the skills and knowledge to coach rugby at grassroots, mini, junior and senior level. The qualification can be used at rugby clubs across the UK.
As part of the partnership, Rugby for Heroes will also use Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub as its new office base.
The collaboration aims to support the continued growth and success of both the hub and the charity, while creating new opportunities for local people and the wider military community.

Rugby for Heroes is a charity that helps veterans from the forces settle back into normal life after years in the military. They have already run over forty courses and were looking for a home, so we were delighted to bring them into the Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub and look forward to working with them more closely in Podsmead.
