Bexhill Leisure Centre is a valued community facility that plays a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing and leisure needs of residents across the Rother District.
As the building continues to age, significant investment from Rother District Council is being made to improve the facility, address areas of deterioration, enhance operational resilience and ensure the centre remains safe, sustainable and fit for the future.
Over the coming months, the leisure centre will undergo a programme of essential maintenance and improvement works commissioned by Rother District Council. The centre will remain open throughout the project where possible; however, some areas of the building may be temporarily affected at various stages of the works.
We are committed to working closely with contractors to minimise disruption and maintain access to services wherever possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding while these important improvements are carried out.
Updates
We're pleased to share that Phase 1 of our refurbishment programme is nearing completion, bringing some fantastic improvements to the centre.
Completed works so far include:
✅ A brand new sports hall roof
✅ Full repaint of the sports hall
✅ Installation of a new heating system is underway within the sports hall (to be completed in phase 3)
✅ Newly painted sports hall changing rooms
As we move into Phase 2 of the project, there will be some temporary changes to how the centre operates while works continue.
From Sunday 27 September (evening) into Monday 28 September
Some equipment from Gyms 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be relocated into the sports hall, along with our spin bikes. This temporary setup will allow us to continue offering fitness facilities while refurbishment works progress.
Gym 1 (the main gym) will remain unchanged and continue operating as normal.
From Wednesday 30 September
All group exercise classes will move into the sports hall.
During this period, all customers should enter and exit the building via the sports hall fire exit door, located in the car park which will operate as a temporary entrance.
Unfortunately, Jumbos will remain closed while these works are taking place.
To help make the transition as smooth as possible, there will be a dedicated staff presence at the temporary entrance to provide directions, answer questions and assist customers.
We appreciate that these temporary arrangements may cause some disruption, and we'd like to thank all our customers for their continued patience and support while we invest in improving your leisure centre. The improvements being made will help create a better experience for everyone, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
