Hannah Gilday, Group Active Communities Manager

In East Northamptonshire, we develop a wide range of sporting programmes, working with the East Northamptonshire Sports Partnership, local clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport and the English Federation of Disability Sport. In East Northamptonshire we sponsor the Young Sportsperson Awards to recognise local talent. We also support local athletes with our Talented Athlete Scheme to help them with their training.

We work with children, young people and families across East Northamptonshire of all ages and abilities to encourage them into a more active habit for life. We have a range of holiday activities including the Junior Summer Fitness Challenge, school activity programmes, learn to swim opportunities, youth programmes and more.

We encourage all people in East Northamptonshire, regardless of ability to age well. We host a range of programmes such as Health Walks, Falls Prevention Programmes, Seated Exercise and an Active Ageing Club to encourage those aged 60+ to have fun, socialise and focus on improving mental and physical wellbeing. We are committed to improving opportunities for those facing dementia to remain active.

Across East Northamptonshire we work with over 25 community groups and organisations to develop even more opportunities for local people to get involved in fun activities. We support events, such as the hosting the Women’s tour, deliver outdoor gym sessions, support our local Town Councils with new projects, and set up specific community-led programmes to help in making the most of where people live. Our /activecommunitieseastnorthants facebook page is where you will find us next!

We want to get all people more active, including those who find their working life in East Northamptonshire a reason for not being as active as they may want. As ‘sitting is the new smoking’, we want to work with more local businesses to find out what their employees would love to do with us to get more active around their job. We work with Northamptonshire Sport and Oundle School to provide opportunities to volunteer with our teams.

Health and physical activity come hand in hand and we know the importance of preventing health issues later in life. We offer local health programmes including; GP Referral, Health Walks, Cancer Rehabilitation sessions, Falls Prevention and Dementia Walks. Our staff across local facilities are trained to encourage everyone who wants to improve their health into an opportunity for them.

“Our team have been tasked with delivering an active community outreach programme for your area and its communities. At Freedom Leisure it is our key objective to enable more people, to be more active, more often”
