Pool Refurbishment Information

Please read on for news about our exciting project to improve the facilities at Pool in the Park

January 5 2020

Work has started on a major building project to completely refurbish the changing rooms at Pool in the Park. Freedom Leisure and Woking Borough Council are working together to improve the facilities for all users whilst maintaining the activity programme, however during the project there will be some unavoidable disruption. Please read on for more information.

pool changing room refurbishment

From 6th January 2020 much needed refurbishment works will begin on the changing rooms at Pool in the Park.

Please be aware this project will cause some disruption and there will be  challenges to overcome, however the end result will without doubt be worth the wait and we do hope you will be happy with the new improved facilities.

We would like to thank you for your patience during this major building project.

The project will see changes to the following areas:

  • Ceiling and lighting
  • Tiling
  • Flooring replacement
  • Cubicles and lockers
  • Sanitary fittings
  • Introduction of new family changing rooms
  • Introduction of changing places changing rooms
  • Improved vanity area
  • Improved larger shower areas
  • Improved teaching pool spectator area

The project will be conducted in 2 phases due to the extent of the work required.

temporary route to pools

  • Down the stairs and turn right (turn left if you are using the lift).
  • Through the doors towards the lagoon just past the lift doors.
  • Turn left into the lagoon changing area.
  • Straight on to the back where the lagoon desk is and turn left.
  • Just past the entrance to the ladies toilets is a doorway on the right.
Follow the route along the corridor to the teaching pool and main pool.

See detailed map below

phase 1
main pool changing room

CLOSED from 6 January for 12 weeks (approximately)

Please see the plan below of the areas closed during this phase.

  • Family / disabled changing areas
  • Individual showers
  • Main pool toilets
  • Main pool showers
  • Teaching pool spectator area
  • Vanity area

Changing rooms

The main pool changing rooms wil be closed. All public will need to change in the lagoon changing rooms and access the main and  teaching pool via the temporary heated tunnel. Signage will be in place to assist navigating the areas concerned.

During the phase 1 refurbishment, changing areas will be extremely limited so we ask that customers only bring essential items with them and ideally pushchairs and prams would be left in cars to avoid blocking any access routes. Buggies and pushchairs will not be allowed on poolside due to the lack of space and for health and safety reasons. Please ask for assistance at reception.

Toilets & showers

The only remaining toilets will be by the leisure pool or the upstairs vending area opposite the reception desk and the remaining showers will be by the leisure pool.

Please also ensure anyone taking part in swimming lessons or other activities uses the toilet before leaving the changing rooms due to the distance required accessing the leisure pool facilities.

teaching pool spectator area

Due to the teaching pool spectator area being closed, seating will be placed along the side of the pool. This will also be limited so we ask that parents only bring essential belongings onto poolside.

ways you can help

  • Please don't leave any items in the changing cubicles whilst you are swimming or participating in any other pool activity so that the maximum number of cubicles remain available for all to use.
  • Please allow extra time to get to your activity in case the changing room is busy.
  • Please try not to bring pushchairs or buggies into the building if at all possible.
  • Please be aware that there will be contractors around the changing areas at all times.
  • Casual swimmers may find it helpful to avoid visiting on the hour or half hour when many classes and lessons start/finish and the changing room will be busier.
  • During the time the temporary corridor is in place you might find it helpful to bring flip flops to walk along the corridor.
  • Please be patient! We are working hard to maintain services during the refurbishment but it is a huge project!

Phase 2
Leisure Lagoon Changing room

Leisure Lagoon changing room closed for 10 week duration

This phase will begin as soon as possible after phase 1 is completed. Temporary signage will be adjusted to access the leisure pool and all the new cubicles and lockers at the main pool end of the changing village will be available for use. More details to follow.
