Introduction to gym and fitness is a new project to Tenbury Swimming Pool. It is aimed at increasing participation in inactive girls aged between 11-25 years old.
According to Sport England research only 31.6% of women play sport/are physically active at least once a week. This Girl Can helped to unravel that nationally, 13 million women and girls said they wanted to play more sport, of whom, nearly half are currently inactive! After attending the most recent 'This Girl Can' market place with a mini gym, we learnt that what girls were saying (wanting use of a gym) was echoed in their actions; especially in the use of the rower and battle ropes.
Of the estimated 4055 people living in Tenbury, 51% of the population were male, and 49% were female. (Knowing our communities 2010) Despite this, Freedom Leisure know that the majority of Tenbury Pool facility users are typically male.
To support having more young females participate in sports and exercise within Tenbury, we would like to offer an 8 week programme encouraging girls to be physically active through the use of the gym.
Tenbury Pool's gym, has a number of different pieces of cardio equipment, free weights and resistant machines. The facility is local to the town and has a large free car park, which should make transport easy, whether they walk, bus or drive.
These sessions will be lead by a fully qualified personat trainer to help develop the skillset of young women and teach them the ways to be physically active. The sessions will be sociable and a great opportunity to make friends, support positive outlooks and other wider benefits of exercise.
Sessions will be held every Thursday 5:45 – 6:45, from Jan 4th – Feb 22nd and be held at Tenbury Community Pool and Gym!
The whole 8 weeks will cost only £10.
