In partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, we regret to inform you that the reopening of Malvern Splash Swimming Pool will now be delayed until Tuesday 29 October. We understand that this may cause some disappointment and inconvenience and we want to update you on the work that has taken place and the reason for this extension.
Following commencement of the project on Monday 23 September, you may have seen that scaffolding has been erected around the roof to allow a full structural investigation to be completed and allow commencement of the roof lights works. At this stage, our appointed contactors discovered issues within the internal roof structure itself. As a result, additional work is now required to address these issues before we can safely proceed with the rest of the project.
Why wasn’t this identified sooner?
The issues could not have been foreseen until contractors began dismantling the existing external roof structure.
Impact on the operation of the swimming pool:
Following the thorough review of the required works to rectify the issues within the roof structure, the contractors’ Health and Safety Advisor has requested that the pool hall is empty during this time to ensure there will be no risk of injury to swimmers, spectators or staff.
However, we are pleased to confirm that our contractors will be assigning an additional team of workers to the project. This will minimise the closure period, and they are confident that they will be able to complete the necessary works within the additional two-week period, as long as we do not have a period of prolonged inclement weather.
Looking ahead:
The roof works will extend the life span of the Malvern Splash facility by a guaranteed 25 years. Whilst the new solar panels are predicted to save 186,445 kWh in electricity usage (a 40% reduction on 22/23), with a reduction of 39.5 tonnes of CO2 and deliver savings of £49,389 per year in energy costs.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. The safety of our customers and colleagues remains our top priority.
