Work to install a new 3G pitch at a north Powys sports centre will start next month, Powys County Council and Freedom Leisure have announced.
The new 3G pitch will be installed at Llanidloes Sports Centre, replacing the outdated sports pitch. As part of the works, an improved floodlighting scheme will also be installed.
Welshpool-based SWG Construction have been appointed the contractor to install the pitch and floodlights, with the work anticipated to be completed by July.
The 3G pitch will be suitable for football, hockey and a number of other outdoor sports for the community of Llanidloes and visitors to use.
Cllr Rachel Powell, Cabinet Member for Young People, Culture and Leisure, said:
“This is great news for the sporting community in Llanidloes.This project is only possible thanks to our strong partnership with Freedom Leisure and the support of Njord Wind Developments, the developers of the Bryn Blaen Wind Farm. It demonstrates our continued commitment to provide high-quality, inclusive and fully accessible leisure facilities for all communities in Powys.”
Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education and Property, said:
“I’m delighted that work to install this new pitch will start shortly. This is a great example of partnership working between the council’s education and leisure services, Freedom Leisure and the community to enhance the facilities which will only benefit our learners.”

The work will be subject to any further changes to COVID/BREXIT restrictions or regulations and completion dates could be affected as a result.
