Fenland Customer Newsletter

December 6 2018

hello...

The team at Freedom Leisure is delighted to say a big hello to all residents of fenland! we will be working in partnership with fenland district council for the next 15 years to operate your four local leisure facilities on their behalf.

For those of you currently using; Chatteris Leisure Centre, George Campbell Leisure Centre, Hudson Leisure centre or Manor Leisure Centre we are really looking forward to sharing your health, fitness and sporting journey. For those of you who may be reading this but do not currently use any of the centres – we invite you to come along with us on a journey to a fun and active lifestyle.

Together with the council we aim to continue to support a happy, healthy community – enabling more people to be more active more often.

We have been asked to manage your facilities from 4 December 2018, and we are really looking forward to working with the existing team and supporting them to build upon the services and facilities.

who is freedom leisure?

Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit leisure trust which manages leisure and cultural facilities on behalf of partners across the UK.

Most locally to you, we are already operating three centres in East Northamptonshire, so you may already be aware of the organisation and you may even already use our centres.

We are extremely proud to deliver high quality, locally-focussed services and are committed to their ongoing development, since commencing operations in East Northants in April 2017 we have increased local participation in swimming by 33% and the number of people actively involved in fitness activities by 60%.

As we are not-for-profit with no shareholders, all surplus is reinvested in support of the objectives we share with our partners.

So, by being a member and customer of your local Freedom Leisure facility rather than a private health club, it means the fees you pay go towards helping to support projects, improvements and the services you receive.

Where You Matter is our motto – enabling people to make the most of their leisure time, to be a fun and rewarding place for our staff to work and to support our partners with the provision of great community facilities.

what now?

It is not the Freedom Leisure way to simply enter a new contract and change everything to ‘the way we do things.’ We understand that one size doesn’t fit all. Instead we will work with the existing team members to support and continue their good work, whilst developing and improving where we can.

At Freedom Leisure we truly believe that the local team is the biggest asset to the centres. They have in-depth knowledge about the facilities, the area, the local requirements and most importantly, you, our customers. We will use their knowledge, coupled with our experience of operating leisure centres, to ensure that all the centres are the best they can possibly be.

telephone numbers and websites

All the centres will get new phone numbers from the 4 December – so please make sure you save them in your address book and mobile contacts for easy access.

George Campbell Leisure Centre 01354 707292

Hudson Leisure Centre 01733 942862

Manor Leisure Centre 01733 942861

The centres will each get their own NEW page on our website:

www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/chatteris

www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/georgecampbell

www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/hudson

www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/manor

The websites will be the place to find the centres’ timetables, news, special offers and other information and to book your classes online.

It is our intention to retain and manage the New Vision Fitness App. The home screen will be rebranded as Freedom Leisure and you’ll be able to use it as you do now. As we transfer ownership there may be a short period where the App and online web booking system will not be live but we will endeavour to keep this period to a minimum. The centre staff will let you know more on this as we reach the handover date, and will be on hand to assist you with all bookings.

The existing New Vision Fitness Facebook page @newvisionfitness will transform into a Freedom Leisure Fenland page, so if you already follow it, there is no need to leave – it will be a great source of information. We will also be setting up new individual centre Facebook pages in the first few weeks, so keep an eye out for those too, along with a Fenland Active Communities Service Facebook page.

A new Fenland Freedom Leisure area Twitter page covering the four centres will also be set up shortly – more details to follow about this soon.

The four centres will also have their own email address so you can get in touch:

Investment

In partnership with Fenland District Council we have some exciting plans for your centres with over £1.1m to be invested to make changes and improvements to services and facilities!

Full details will be released soon. However a few contract-wide highlights include:

  • The appointment of an Active Communities Officer to build pathways with target community groups who have a perceived barrier to taking part in physical activity; such as inactive youngsters, lower income families, females, people from ethnic minorities, remote residents and older residents.
  • The introduction of many community focussed schemes such as: Junior Summer Fitness Challenge, health walks, The Friday Night Project, Freedom Runners run club, aqua rehab, looked after children scheme, female only and girls get active sessions and walking sports, to name just a few.
  • We will also provide dementia friends staff training to ensure we can support people as required.
  • Talented Athletes Scheme to support and nurture local sporting talent

In addition, some site-specific changes are to be made:

Hudson Leisure Centre – There will be extensive improvements to the fitness offering with a much larger brand new, remodelled, 70-station gym including the latest kit, an additional fitness studio, plus a dedicated indoor cycling studio – making the centre one of the largest fitness facilities in Fenland. The existing reception will receive a huge refurbishment to allow for better, faster entry, including self-check in kiosk, and a large café and seating area serving Costa coffee.

George Campbell Leisure Centre – The reception area is being upgraded and will include a café serving Costa coffee and extended seating area, with the gym also be refreshed and will receive a full kit replacement.

Both Chatteris Leisure Centre and Manor Leisure Centre will also see full gym kit replacement and upgraded vending offerings.

Swimming with Freedom Leisure

Freedom Leisure works with the Swim England’s aquatic framework and all our swim team are fully trained ASA swimming teachers. Our classes ensure improved water confidence and swimming technique by allowing the individual to progress at their own pace.

As part of our community commitments we are dedicated to helping children to start swimming and acquiring the life saving skill from an early age, while also supporting older residents to swim as a way of staying active.

Our swim schools are for all ages with numerous swim sessions to suit everyone.

To support all of the above we are also going introduce free swimming for over 75s and for all under 8s enrolled in our swimming lessons also entitled to free recreational swimming too!

#PeopleLikeYou

Freedom Leisure prides itself on operating friendly, welcoming centres which are so much more than just gyms – across the Freedom Leisure group we have a huge and varying number of available activities all under one roof, from racket sports, to swimming pools, athletics tracks, and sports halls to climbing walls, ice rinks and studios; plus social spaces to enjoy a coffee, soft play, children’s and adults sports clubs and events halls.

And most importantly we welcome everyone – no matter of age, ethnicity, gender or ability.

Our centres are easily accessible, cater for everyone and are judgment free, and unlike other gyms that often use highly polished photography of smiley, happy, super-fit individuals; we like to keep it real.

Existing hirers

Current bookings will be unaffected but facility hirers will need to complete a new booking form when they next renew a booking. Please email the centre on above email address with your details so they can send you a Freedom Leisure booking form and ensure the continuity of your booking.
