Just 12 months ago Gareth Lawrence started work at Brecon Leisure Centre coming from a manager’s role in a local sport shop.
Gareth started his leisure career by gaining his lifeguard qualification. He had recently become interested in running and cycling, but had very little swim experience. Working hard to achieve the lifeguard qualification, his love of swimming began.
Just one year on and Gareth is now regularly competing representing Brecon Athletic Club and Brecon Triathlon Club in various events.
His highlights include the Cardiff Half, 1.26.58; the Serpentine 1 mile Swim, 32.06; the Velothon Wales, 5.57.59 and the Newport Marathon 3.51.42 among many more and numerous Park Runs and Cross Country races whenever he can.
Brecon Triathlon was his first Tri event and coming 22nd introduced him to the competitive world of swim events and his love of Aquathlons.
Earlier this year saw him achieve 1st place in the Parc Bryn Bach Aquathlon Series and 15th place in the Welsh Championship Porth Eirias Aquathlon.
Well done Gareth, keep up the competitive streak and don’t forget to fit your shifts into your busy racing calendar.
