Statement regarding management of Aylesham welfare leisure centre

The Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare scheme, who built and own the Aylesham Welfare Leisure Centre - a sport, fitness and social facility in the village, is looking at new options for managing the facility moving forward.

After eight years of managing the facility, the current operator Freedom Leisure, feels that now is a good time to hand it over to a fresh team. But will continue to run the centre up until 30th April, and in conjunction with the welfare will aim to keep customers updated on all developments.

Area Manager Neil Roberts says "It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to part ways with the welfare and the running of this centre because we have thoroughly enjoyed supporting an active community within Aylesham, and have had a great relationship with the trust since commencing our partnership in September 2010.

As a not-for-profit trust itself Freedom Leisure reinvests surplus back in to the local community facilities it operates for their improvement, and is delighted to have invested £500,000 towards improving facilities during its time at the centre.

Roberts adds "We are working closely with the welfare over the coming months to make the transition as smooth as possible and to support them with their new management plans"

Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare Scheme would like to thank the staff and management team of Freedom Leisure for all the work that they have done on behalf of Aylesham and the local community for the last 8 years. The management committee of the welfare will endeavour to build on Freedom Leisure's legacy and provide sporting and cultural activities for the people of Aylesham and the local community.
