David Stokes was born in Walsall in 1960. He was educated at Walton High School, Stafford and Stafford College of Art before gaining an Honours Degree in Fine Art at Manchester University.
He worked in local government in West London for over 30 years, where he had opportunities to work on environmental art projects, not least the creation in 1999/2000 of the Millenium Maze in Hanwell, London Borough of ealing.
Through this time he has continued to develop his long interest in "All-Over-Painting". That is to say, for example, where the surface of the canvas is treated equally in terms of mark making, paint application, colour areas etc. Two paintings here, "All Loved Up" and "Catacombs" are from earlier this decade but the majority of the work was made in recent months following his return to his home of Stafford. The flat colours are crisp and bright, often competing against each other as well as in blocks for contrast, compliment, movement and vibration.
The house is open from 10am till 4pm each day Tuesday to Saturday inclusive. Entry to the house is by donation only with no set admission fee
